Annual Winter Warm-Up Coat Drive, Food Drive and Toys for Tots
The Dayton Police Department is teaming up with other metro police departments to collect new and gently used coats as part of Justin Morneau’s Annual Winter Warm-up Coat Drive. All coats collected will be distributed by The Salvation Army Harbor Light to those in need in the Twin Cities. The Event runs October 1st until November 30th.
PLEASE NOTE: The Salvation Army is most in need of adult coats suitable for a Minnesota winter. We can accept youth coats but adult sizes are most needed.
Toys for Tots is a charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps to provide happiness and hope to disadvantaged children. The toys, books, and other gifts collected and distributed by the Marines offer these children recognition, confidence, and a positive memory for a lifetime.
We will be collecting toys and coats at the Dayton Police Department and at the Dayton City Hall during business hours through December 1st.
We will also have collection boxes at the HoliDayton Celebration
on December 5th Time: 5-8 p.m.
Location: City Hall 12260 South Diamond Lake Rd
Food Drive
CROSS Services plays a vital role in providing food assistance to families and individuals in need throughout our local area. With your help, we can make a significant difference in addressing hunger in our community, especially as the holiday season approaches. Collection boxes are located at the Dayton City Hall and the Dayton Police Department through the month of November. You can also bring your donations to Holidayton on December 5, 2024.
Non-Emergency Calls
The Police department receives numerous non-emergency calls for service to the office. If you are looking to have an officer take a report or need assistance, please contact the police department through 911. This is the best way to ensure a prompt response as there is not always someone in the office available to take your call. You may also contact dispatch at 952-258-5321 for non-emergency calls.
Overnight Parking Permits
If you will be parking a vehicle(s) on the street overnight, for any reason, you need to obtain a parking permit from the Police department. This is one way officers are able to determine if a vehicle belongs to someone in the area or not. You can access information on obtaining a parking permit in the Parking Permit and Vehicle page of this site. Click here to be directed to the Parking Permit and Vehicle Info page.
Theft from Autos
Over the past couple summers, there have been a number of theft from auto reports involving commercial / work vehicles. The Dayton Police department is recommending residents who are parking these types of vehicles at their home remove valuable items from inside their vehicles. We realize this may be an inconvenience, but it is the best way to avoid becoming a victim of theft. The suspects are specifically targeting commercial/work vehicles and taking tools and equipment that can be easily sold. It is also recommended to park your vehicle in the driveway and in a well lit area when possible. Please call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
Reserves Wanted
The Dayton Police department is currently seeking qualified individuals to join the Police Reserve. Interested persons should go to the Police Reserve section of this site for more information.
