Building Permits

Building permit applications are to be submitted electronically at permits@daytonmn.gov.  Applications must be accompanied by a set of plans and a survey (surveys are needed if permit is for exterior work)  Metro West Inspection Services is contracted by Dayton to complete building inspections.  Please direct building code questions and inspection requests to Metro West Inspection Services at (763) 479-1720.

  • Homes over 20 years old may qualify for permit discounts for remodeling, basement finishes, or additions. Please contact City Hall for more information
  • Manufactured Mobile Home Permits for Reroofs, Residing, or Additions need to be accompanied by the Manufactures Approval and Engineered Specifications. Permits MUST be emailed to permits@daytonmn.gov

Water and Sewer connections are inspected by the Public Works department.  Please visit the Water and Sewer page under Public Works for more information.

Rental Application

Please complete the rental application in its entirety for both new and renewal rentals. The application and payment must be received prior to the required inspection. Please allow up to 10 business days for processing applications. Once we confirm the application and payment are received, please contact Metro West Inspection Services at (763) 479-1720 to set up the inspection. After all necessary steps are complete, a certificate will be issued to the owner for the rental license.
