- Assuring a safe and livable community is the priority for the City of Dayton. The City of Dayton Emergency Management team is working closely with the North Suburban Emergency Management Group, Hennepin County Emergency Management, and the Minnesota Department of Health to monitor and respond to the spread of the novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. At this time there are no reported cases in Dayton. To assure the health of both our municipal workforce and community members we are following the guidance of experts and the CDC and MN Department of Heath regarding our response. The City water supply is treated and safe from COVID-19.
- Residents will not currently notice any changes in delivery of city services other than on medical calls that involve flu-like symptoms. Dayton Police Department will not be responding to any medical calls where the patient is ill or has flu like symptoms starting immediately. Officer’s will use judgement if there are underlying circumstances such as shorten of breath, or other life-threatening concerns. In these cases, Officers will respond with the proper PPE in place. Dayton Fire Department will continue to respond to all medical calls within the city but will be taking extra precautions at any calls there a patient is presenting flu like symptoms to protect themselves and the patient. Please stay tuned to the city’s webpage for any updates or changes to any city services including cancelation of any meetings or events.
- Residents are also encouraged to review COVID-19 information available from both the Minnesota Department of Health and the Centers For Disease Control (CDC). In the meantime, healthy habits are the best way to prevent illnesses including the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 so please be sure to wash your hands, cover your cough, and stay home if you are feeling ill.
03-16-2020 COVID-19 UPDATE:
As events unfold surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Dayton is committed to maintaining excellent customer service while taking the recommended measures to prevent the spread of the virus. The health and safety of the public and our staff is our primary concern, while continuing to provide critical services to our community.
Our City Hall has implemented social distancing procedures as recommended by the CDC and the Minnesota Department of Health. As part of this effort, we ask that residents utilize our online resources whenever possible to limit visits to our City Hall. Examples would be utilizing our online payment capabilities for utility bills, and submitting building permits via email to: email@example.com. If you need to meet with staff we recommend a phone meeting versus in person.
Given the uncertain impact on City staffing and resources, please note that critical services (Police, Fire and Public Works) will continue to be our first priority. Depending on circumstances, please be aware that certain services may be delayed, such as the processing of building permits and licenses. If staffing is limited as a result of safety measures, we will attempt to answer calls as we receive them, however please leave a voice message if necessary.
Please review the information below regarding the changes to Police Services:
- If you need to make a police report, please call 911. If the report is one that can be taken over the phone, the officer will do so. If a response is needed the officer will respond to the scene.
- If you will be leaving town and would like a house check, please use the form at https://cityofdaytonmn.com/departments/police/house-check-request/ or call the office at 763-427-2017 to set up the house check.
- If need to obtain a copy of a police report, begin by calling the office to see if report is available and what the cost would be. After speaking to the police department staff, go to https://cityofdaytonmn.com/departments/police/services/ , complete the record request form and mail along with check for payment to Dayton Police Department 13700 Zanzibar Lane Dayton, MN 55327, or complete the form and email to firstname.lastname@example.org and call City Hall at 763-427-4589 and make a credit card payment over the phone. Once payment and request form are received the report will be emailed if there is no private data included. Otherwise, it will be returned via USPS.
- No parking permits will be issued at this time. Permits that expire during this time will automatically be extended until services return to normal.
- No public fingerprinting will be done until further notice.
- Firearm Permits will need to be done via mail or email. No faxed applications will be accepted as these often do not come through clearly. Applicants will need to email completed application to email@example.com or mail to the Dayton Police Department 13700 Zanzibar Lane Dayton, MN 55327 along with a photocopy or image of their driver’s license or State ID. Applications will not be accepted without copy or image of ID. Approved permits will be mailed to the applicant at the address on the driver’s license or State ID when complete.
We recommend calling the police department at 763-427-2017 before coming to the office if you have any questions or concerns. Please call 911 if you need an officer to respond to you. We will update the website once we return to normal servicing.

Hennepin County Small Business Relief Program
Hennepin County Board of Commissioners have allocated $15 million for small business relief and recovery efforts, including $10 million to the Hennepin County Small Business Relief Fund for emergency financial relief. An additional $5 million will go to future business recovery efforts. Small businesses can now apply for grants for up to $10,000. Applications are due by May 8, 2020 at noon.
